Serena Williams to Return Next Week for Tournament in Austria

Serena Williams will make her anticipated return to the WTA tour next week in Linz, Austria, at the Generali Ladies Linz.

Williams has not played in a tournament since injuring her foot in an off-court incident following her win at Wimbledon. The injury required surgery and has kept the American sidelined since the beginning of July.

Prior to her injury, Williams cruised to her fourth career Wimbledon title and 13th Grand Slam.

Organizers of the tournament in Linz said that Williams confirmed her entry on Thursday, shortly after she lost her No. 1 ranking to Caroline Wozniacki. Wozniacki will officially be named No. 1 when the new WTA rankings are released on Monday.
