LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Red Sox and Mets have discussed a trade that would send outfielder Carlos Beltran to Boston, a source told FanHouse. For now, the deal represents a fallback option for the Sox as they size up the market for free-agent Carl Crawford as well as other potential targets, one of whom is reportedly Magglio Ordonez.
Boston is in the market for an outfielder despite having Jacoby Ellsbury, J.D. Drew and Mike Cameron already on the roster for 2011, particularly one that can hit left-handed pitching in a lineup that leans left with Ellsbury, Drew, David Ortiz and new first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
