Mikel Leshoure, Illini Run All Over Baylor in Texas Bowl

Mikel LeshoureHOUSTON -- Taking in a little of the Texas culture, Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure donned a big cowboys hat following Wednesday night's Texas Bowl game.

It would be the only time of the night Leshoure attempted to blend in, as the junior was the standout during the Illini's 38-14 win at Reliant Stadium that spoiled Baylor's return to the postseason for the first time in 16 years. Leshoure ran for 184 yards and three touchdowns, including the door-slamming 5-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter that thwarted Baylor's comeback hopes.

It was the start of a banner night for Leshoure, who tied one school record and broke five others Wednesday, including claiming Illinois' single-season rushing record (1,697 yards) while earning Texas Bowl MVP honors en route to leading the Illini to victory in what might be his final college football game.

"I can't even put this into words," said Leshoure, who also scored touchdown runs of 5 and 13 yards. "Being able to accept the accomplishments and to be able to talk about it is even better.

"Now that it's the end of the season and I found out I broke those records, it feels good."
