Ron Washington Gets a Two-Year Contract Extension From Rangers

As you'd probably guess, winning the American League pennant does good things for a manager's job security.

Ron Washington and the Rangers have agreed to a two-year contract extension that will be formally announced later on Thursday. There are no financial terms attached to the report. Washington originally signed a two-year deal with the Rangers before the 2007 season and had team options for the 2009 and 2010 seasons which were exercised.

Washington's teams have improved every season, culminating, of course, with this year's trip to the World Series. The biggest bump in the road was the revelation of a positive test for cocaine before this season got under way, but his players rallied to his support and Washington didn't let the team's uncertain ownership status get in the way of their fine play during the regular season.
