Lorenzo Seeks to Break Record in Valencia

LorenzoJorge Lorenzo?s first MotoGP World Championship win could be given added significance this weekend should he make it onto the podium for the Valencia Grand Prix.

Long-confirmed as the 2010 world champion, Lorenzo won his first race in three months at Estoril last weekend, in doing so putting himself in a good position to break the record for points scored during a single season.

Currently classified on 358 points, a run to third place ? or higher ? in Valencia, Spain would see Lorenzo surpass his FIAT Yamaha team-mate in what would arguably be a fitting result to a dominant year.

Indeed, Lorenzo is aiming higher than a mere podium, the Spaniard looking to conclude his season appropriately with a win on home soil.

“Finally the end of the season is here and for me it is so special to finish in Spain, with all of my fans,? he said. ?I have already celebrated at home in Mallorca but this will be the first time I ride in Spain as the World Champion and I am so proud to do so. It has been an incredible season for us and I was so happy to win again last weekend.

?We have won the Triple Crown now so our targets are complete, but I would like to make a new points record, which I can do if I finish on the podium. I have never won in Valencia so I would really like to try this weekend.”
