Twins fans nervous about the status of star first baseman Justin Morneau heading into the 2011 season can take comfort in the words of general manager Bill Smith.Appearing on MLB Network, Smith gave an update on Morneau, who missed the second half of the regular season as well as the postseason after suffering a concussion on July 7.
"I hadn't talked with (Justin) in probably a month and he told me that he has had a real good week of workouts," Smith said. "He said he pushed it ... about as hard as he can in any workout and he didn't have any problems."
Smith went on: "The doctors had told us last year that these things take time. It's a concussion, (it) is an injury to the brain, and they take time to heal and they cautioned us of that. And everything that they have said has come true. So through July, August, September, whenever he had some kind of symptoms the doctors cautioned him to back off.
