TCU Throttles Utah 47-7

TCU UtahSALT LAKE CITY -- TCU removed any doubt about whether or not it deserves to be included in Bowl Championship Series -- and perhaps BCS title game -- discussions.

So did Utah.

The Horned Frogs, No. 3 in the BCS standings and No. 4 in the polls, cemented their status as a legitimate championship contender with a dominating 47-7 victory over a No. 6 Utah team that hoped to do the very same thing.

With a smothering defense, TCU (10-0, 6-0 Mountain West) prevented Utah from crossing midfield until the fourth quarter and had complete control of the game from the opening drive.

With an offense that churned out 535 yards while limiting Utah -- which entered the game with the third-best offense in the nation at 449.6 yards per game -- to just 198 yards. The Utes, who now are likely looking at a consolation bowl game in Las Vegas, lost at home for the first time since September 8, 2007.

Quarterback Andy Dalton completed 21 of 26 passes for the Frogs, passing for 355 yards and three touchdowns before heading to the sidelines midway through the fourth quarter.

TCU completed what may be its final challenge of the season and will finish the schedule off with a home game against San Diego State and a trip to dreadful New Mexico.

  1. Go TCU! no.5 in the nation after losing 47-7 and beating JV-teams? Over-rated! Worst of all, it was supposed to be a big victory for Utah and a black-out game, which turned out to be a disaster for Utah and a great boost for TCU! It was Utah's first loss in 21 home games. Go horned frogs (and go cougars too!)
