2010 Team Reviews: Hendrick Motorsports Leads Way
Filed under: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Chase for the Sprint Cup, Sprint Cup, Hendrick Motorsports
Just days after Jimmie Johnson secured his record-extending fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup title, Hendrick Motorsports experienced quite possibly the largest shift within its organization, ever. With the exception of Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus, crew chiefs changed teams and drivers switched shops. All of it, goofy enough, in a bid to become as good or better than Johnson & Knaus in 2011.
But before they get there, it's worth noting what Hendrick Motorsports did in 2010 that earned them the distinction of FanHouse's top NASCAR team of the past season:
1st - Jimmie Johnson [6 wins, 17 Top-5s, 23 Top-10s, 4 DNFs, 12.2 Avg Finish]
Johnson obviously carried the Hendrick load most impressively this season by the sheer fact that he won, yet again, the Sprint Cup title. However, it was Johnson's first season in which he looked terrifically vulnerable down the stretch -- even needed to outrace Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick in the season finale to lay claim to his fifth title.

Engineers Assemble In Bologna To Work On 2011 Ducati MotoGP Bike
If anyone thought that the media storm surrounding Valentino Rossi's switch to Ducati for the 2011 MotoGP season would die down once the announcement had been made official, they were to be proven utterly wrong. First, there was the saga of whether Yamaha would release Rossi early from his contract to allow the Italian to test the Ducati at Valencia, then there was the excitement and drama of the Valencia test itself.
Rossi ended the Valencia test 15th fastest, with only MotoGP returnee Toni Elias and MotoGP rookie Karel Abraham behind him, unleashing a tidal wave of speculation surrounding his test result. Rossi's slow time was put down to his still injured shoulder (for which he had surgery a few days later), and in wanting to get acquainted with the Ducati Desmosedici, rather than focus on trying to put in a fast lap.
While both these explanations are undoubtedly true, there were also a few of signs of panic among the Ducati team, despite team manager Alessandro Cicognani professing that Ducati was "not worried" about the times. Speaking to the press after the test, Ducati Corse director Filippo Preziosi described the test as a "bad test" and spoke of Rossi's lack of feeling with the front end. But the Ducati team had taken plenty of positives from the test, with Rossi expressing himself to be impressed with the engine and the rear grip, something he had complained about on the Yamaha just about all year.

Recall: 2010 Triumph Sprint ST/GT
Triumph is recalling a number of 2010 Triumph Sprint ST and Spring GT motorcycles for a faulty dipstick. Apparently on just over 200 units of the sport-tourers, a dipstick with an incorrect length was installed, which would result in an inaccurate reading being taken from the oil level that could result in the motor running out of oil. Since only bad things happen with an oil deprived motor, a recall is expected to start before ...

Clint Session Likely to Play for Colts on Sunday
And that could be good news for the Indianapolis Colts entering their regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans.
Session, an outside linebacker who has missed eight games with an elbow injury sustained in early November, practiced full for a second consecutive day Thursday, making it more likely he will play against the Titans Sunday.
"It's good - it's going uphill right now," Session said Thursday.

Tyreke Evans' Game-Winner From Beyond Halfcourt Snaps Kings' Losing Streak
Filed under: Grizzlies, Kings, NBA Videos
The Sacramento Kings may have the worst record in the league, their coach and general manager may be holding onto their jobs by a thread and their best player may be on the verge of sitting for a month or two with injury, but they'll always have this:Beating the buzzer with a desperate heave from 50 feet away, Tyreke Evans finally gave the tortured fans at ARCO Arena reason to celebrate. The 100-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies snapped the Kings' eight-game losing streak, and marked just the second win in the last 18 games.
Had Evans missed the last-second prayer, Wednesday's game, a meaningless affair between two last-place teams, would have been quickly forgotten. But by making the shot, Evans provided perhaps the most incredible ending to a game this year -- no matter what the sport.

Mikel Leshoure, Illini Run All Over Baylor in Texas Bowl
Filed under: Baylor, Illinois, Big 10, Big 12, Bowl Games
HOUSTON -- Taking in a little of the Texas culture, Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure donned a big cowboys hat following Wednesday night's Texas Bowl game.It would be the only time of the night Leshoure attempted to blend in, as the junior was the standout during the Illini's 38-14 win at Reliant Stadium that spoiled Baylor's return to the postseason for the first time in 16 years. Leshoure ran for 184 yards and three touchdowns, including the door-slamming 5-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter that thwarted Baylor's comeback hopes.
It was the start of a banner night for Leshoure, who tied one school record and broke five others Wednesday, including claiming Illinois' single-season rushing record (1,697 yards) while earning Texas Bowl MVP honors en route to leading the Illini to victory in what might be his final college football game.
"I can't even put this into words," said Leshoure, who also scored touchdown runs of 5 and 13 yards. "Being able to accept the accomplishments and to be able to talk about it is even better.
"Now that it's the end of the season and I found out I broke those records, it feels good."

HRC Update On Pedrosa's Shoulder Injury: Recovery Going Well, About To Resume Training
With the holiday season almost upon us, teams are clearing their desks before heading off for their Christmas and New Year's break. That explains the blizzard of press releases being issued. The latest HRC missive concerns Dani Pedrosa's condition, and his progress during his recovery. The Spaniard broke his collarbone in Motegi in early October, after the throttle on his RC212V stuck open, causing him to crash heavily. The collarbone was plated, but bruising and swelling caused Pedrosa a number of problems while racing. Below is the HRC update on his condition:
DANI PEDROSA TO RESUME FULL TRAINING IN JANUARY
Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa is now in the final stages of recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained last October and is excited to return to training in early January.
The Spaniard will spend a full month working on his physical condition to ensure that he is in the best possible shape for the first MotoGP test of 2011 at Sepang, Malaysia, from February 1st to 3rd.

Clippers Surge as Blake Griffin Soars
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Lakers will continue to get top billing in Los Angeles over the Clippers (and second and maybe third), even with their Christmas Day humbling by the Heat.
But kudos to the other team in La-La land for giving its most-loyal fan base quite the holiday treat in recent weeks, winning five of six games in a stretch that began on Dec. 17 and continued with a 100-99 win over the lowly Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Arco Arena.

Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne Among Four Colts Pro Bowl Selections
And he's making history again, too.
Manning, the Indianapolis Colts' 13-year veteran quarterback, on Tuesday was named to the Pro Bowl for an 11th consecutive season. He was one of four Colts players named to the Pro Bowl, with the others being wide receiver Reggie Wayne and defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.
Wayne, who was named a starter, made the Pro Bowl for a fifth consecutive season, and Freeney and Mathis -- also named as a starters -- each made it for a third consecutive season.
Freeney has been selected for the game six times; Mathis, three.
Manning, who made the game as a reserve with Tom Brady of New England starting, tied defensive end Gino Marchetti for the most Pro Bowl appearances in franchise history.
Manning, who has made nine consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, has completed 423 of 638 passes for 4,436 yards and 31 touchdowns with 17 interceptions for a 91.4 passer rating this season. He leads the NFL in passing yards.
Wayne, who has recorded 100-plus receptions for a third time in four seasons, has 102 receptions this season for 1,287 yards and five touchdowns. He is the seventh player in NFL history with three or more 100-plus-reception seasons and the 11th player with 10 or more receptions in back-to-back seasons.
He is the eighth NFL player with 1,000 receiving yards in seven consecutive seasons.

2011 calendar confirmation promises a season of highlights
Wednesday, 24 November 2010 12:44 |
The FIM has handed down the updated 2011 WSBK calendar and as was the case in 2010 it features 13 rounds, which will take place at some of the world's most evocative and iconic racetracks.
The season opener takes place at the incomparable seaside circuit of Phillip Island, one of the fastest and most open circuits in the entire world of racing (photo). It, like many others, is an old friend of WSBK racing and it will of course feature as an official pre-season test venue, shortly before race weekend, on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22. Raceday itself will be Sunday, 27 February 2011 - make a note of it now. At Phillip Island World Supersport will also make its only non-European appearance of the year.
Early springtime at Donington Park will echo the very beginnings of WSBK in 1988, with this brilliant motorcycle racing venue all ready to welcome back WSBK racing after a year's absence. March 27 will be raceday, for the first of two races to be held in the UK next year.
April 17 is the day for yet another classic WSBK venue, Assen, while the first of three Italian-based WSBK rounds come along at super-fast Monza, on May 8. The normal European theatre of operations is left behind for a short period after Monza, and the Superbike class alone heads to America and the Miller Motorsports Park this year, for a race on Monday May 30 - on the Memorial Day holiday. Note that there will be no Supersport World Championship round at Miller in 2011, but the programme will see the reintegration of a round of the AMA Superbike Championship.
Two race weekends in a row will be enjoyed in June, the first being the San Marino Round at Misano on June 12 and then a new adventure beckons for the full WSBK travelling circus, the debut of the Motorland Aragon Circuit in Spain on June 19.
The wide corners and chicanes of Brno form round eight on July 10; the even faster layout of Silverstone has its latest taste of WSBK action on July 31. Double the thrills for British fans, and they will have several top riders to cheer on again, as they did in 2010.
August is a race-free month for all WSBK classes, with action reconvening at the historic Nrburgring circuit on September 4. An intense end to the season sees three European rounds, Imola, Magny Cours and Portimao, all coming along within a four-weekend period.
Imola has been reconfirmed on September 25, Magny-Cours in France is the penultimate round of the year on October 2, while instant classic Portimao is again the venue for the final round of the season, on October 16. Portimao will, in fact, bracket the WSBK season neatly, as it hosts the first official test of the year, between 26 and 28 January.
Ten rounds remain in the Superstock classes, as there will be no races for those classes in Donington, and their season gets underway at Assen, on April 17.
