THE DOCTOR, THE TORNADO & THE KENTUCKY KID is the electrifying follow-up to Mark Neale?s 2004 MotoGP smash hit FASTER. Narrated by Ewan McGregor, the movie tells the story of the biggest motorcycle race in American history, the 2005 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, California. It?s a tale of extraordinary characters chasing a dream in the face of real danger, under unimaginable pressure, with no margin for error. For lovers of maximum adrenaline action, this is the pure, unadulterated, 100% genuine article. The Doctor, the Tornado & the Kentucky Kid is another motorcycle-racing feast served up by Mark Neale, the director of Faster. Where the earlier film focused on an entire season of MotoGP racing, DTK limits its coverage to the Red Bull Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, California, held over the weekend of July 8-10, 2005. This was the seventh and most hotly anticipated race of the '05 season, not only because Laguna Seca is one of MotoGP's most technically demanding and physically intimidating race courses, but also because it was the first MotoGP race held on American soil since 1994 (evidence of the sport's European emphasis and the efforts of corporate sponsors like Red Bull to popularize MotoGP in the U.S.). Like Faster, this film and its DVD bonus features are aimed squarely at established fans of MotoGP, but potential converts will find plenty to enjoy in Neale's comprehensive coverage of the 32-lap race. And, as any fan can tell you, the title refers to the nicknames of the riders who were key figures on that sunny afternoon: American Nicky "The Kentucky Kid" Hayden on his lightning-fast #69 Repsol Honda; American Colin "The Texas Tornado" Edwards on his #5 Camel Yamaha; and the Italian reigning champion, Valentino Rossi (Edwards' teammate), on his #46 Camel Yamaha.
American challenger John "Hopper" Hopkins is also prominently featured on his #21 Rizia Suzuki, but DTK doesn't flinch from the harsher aspects of a motorsport where success is never guaranteed. Thanks to the film's all-angle coverage of on-track rivalries, it's clear that Edwards and Rossi were the race's undeniable highlight, battling ferociously in the final laps while Hayden was in the lead. With celebrities in the crowd (including cycle fans Brad Pitt and Adrien Brody) and racing enthusiast Ewan McGregor once again providing dramatic narration, Neale's film suffers from occasional lapses in hi-def image quality (owing in part to video-feed static and the unavoidably harsh contrasts of sunny weather), but interviews and voice-overs from the riders keep things interesting from start to finish, along with a throttle-roaring 5.1 Surround soundtrack (with pulsing techno music by TomandAndy) that's the next best thing to being there. The Ultimate Collector's Edition has 11 additional scenes on disc 1 (including longer interviews and highlights from the 2006 Red Bull U.S. GP), and disc 2 consists entirely of "Interactive Racing" clips, allowing viewers to watch three climactic segments of the 2005 race from multiple angles. Switching between several onboard cameras is the closest that most of us will ever get to the sheer thrill of MotoGP, and that makes DTK a must-have DVD for race fans around the world. --Jeff Shannon Features: Officially Licensed, Highest Quality Recording more...

Spanish Honda rider Dani Pedrosa clinched his first pole position of the season with the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday for Sunday's Czech Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old, who had dominated both free practice sessions on Friday, clocked 1min 56.591sec to edge out Yamaha's defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo of Spain by 0.113sec.
Pedrosa's Honda teammate Casey Stoner of Australia, the world championship leader, came in third after topping the last free practice on Saturday morning on a wet track that had dried by the qualifying session.
Pedrosa's performance comes on the back of winning the German Grand Prix last month, completing a stunning comeback after he broke his right collarbone in the French race in May which saw him miss three races and ruin his chances of winning the world title.
"It's my first pole of the year and also after a long time, so I'm very happy for that. The weekend has been pretty good for us so far, the bike is working well and I'm feeling good physically as well," said Pedrosa.
"Let's hope we are able to keep the pace tomorrow and fight for a good result," added the Spaniard who is fourth in the championship.
Lorenzo, trailing Stoner by 20 points in the second place overall, was also happy with his performance.
"Yesterday things weren?t like we expected, but we made some changes and improved braking to make the bike more stable. The pace in the last laps was quite good, so we?re happy," he said.
"Tomorrow we aim for the podium, or if possible, to win the race," added Lorenzo, who won at Brno last year.
Stoner, who has won five out of ten races this season, including the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca on July 24, blamed the rain that prevented him from testing his Honda properly on Saturday morning.
"Also, the session didn't start too well with a fast crash in turn three which lost us some time and obviously dented my confidence a little," he said.
"I felt qualifying could have been better, we almost lapped with the same time on old and new tyres but in general we have a lot of work to do.
"We're obviously happy with front row, but we're not really where we want to be with the bike and there is still a lot of work to do," said Stoner.
US rider Ben Spies of Yamaha came in fourth ahead of Italy's Marco Simoncelli on a Honda and another Valentino Rossi on a Ducati, who has won five MotoGP races in Brno.
The slippery morning practice turned the Brno trip into a nightmare for John Hopkins, a US superbike rider hired by the Rizla Suzuki team just for this race.
Hopkins crashed and broke a finger, which ruled him out of the qualifying session.
Britain's Cal Crutchlow and Czech Karel Abraham both crashed in the qualifying practice.
In Moto2, Spain's Marc Marquez on a Suter claimed pole position in 2min 02.493sec ahead of championship leader Stefan Bradl of Germany on a Kalex and Italy's Alex De Angelis on a Motobi.
The 125cc championship leader, Nicolas Terol of Spain on an Aprilia, secured the front post on the grid in 2min 08.118sec, ahead of France's Johann Zarco on a Derbi and German rider Sandro Cortese on an Aprilia.

Bridgestone issued their usual post-race press release, wrapping up the race and the test which followed on Monday. The press release had plenty to cover this time, as the new tire regulations were introduced (complete with a third choice of front tire), and a new, less stiff tire for 2012 was tested on Monday. The press release follows below:
